There are more variations of mouse, rat, and mole traps than any other type of trap. These traps can be found made of bamboo, wood, cane, copper, brass, tin, steel, wire, cast iron, and plastic, pressed paper or glass. There are even traps that kill the desired target then casts the animal aside and resets itself.
One of the oldest patent traps known is a Johnson's wood base rat trap stamped, PAT. 1847. Wood based types are the most common and only those with readable stampings or labels are of collector value.
The most commonly found "Very Good" condition trap price is listed in this book. Better grade value of each is worth 1.5x the price listed and new condition in older traps are worth double the value listed.
Like in other collectables, low grade with a missing label and/or broken or missing parts, are NOT collectable and are mainly classified as scrappers or used for spare parts.
